Money Management Lessons from Citibank Volunteers Prove Popular with Students in Guam
Guam On October 18, Citibank volunteers changed roles for the day to teach money management and credit best practices to over 260 students at three local high schools.
The Citibank volunteers were participating in the fifth annual "Get Smart about Credit Day" sponsored by the American Bankers Association's Education Foundation (ABAEF).
Topics covered in the lessons included budgeting, prioritizing expenses and good credit habits.
Incorporating case studies, financial games, and crossword puzzles, the classes were highly interactive and well received by the students. Some of the post-lesson comments from students included:
"Just keep doing what you are doing. You are doing a great job."
"Hope to be working for you in the future."
"You are solid."
The Citibank volunteers also enjoyed the experience said Ms. Cherry Toledo, a Sales Support Representative. "This was my first volunteering experience and the others and I enjoyed it a lot. The students were very interested in what we had to tell them and keen to practice what they had been taught," she said.
Citi Country Officer, Mr. Madhu Seshadri said he was pleased to see another outstanding effort from the Citibank volunteers.
"It was great to see the impact made by our volunteers, especially our first timers. I also appreciated the continuing support from our seasoned volunteers and their dedication to financial education is amazing. Judging by the reaction of the students, particularly in their questions and enthusiasm during projects, our volunteers have again made a positive and lasting difference."
Since its launch in 2002, Citibank Guam volunteers have taught over 600 students in the ABAEF "Get Smart about Credit Day."
Founded in 1875, the American Bankers Association (ABA) is a big supporter of financial education for all members of the community. One of its signature programs is the "Get Smart about Credit Day," where volunteer bankers teach the basics of finance to students across the island.
