Citi-Sponsored "Uang Anda" TV Show Takes Financial Education into Millions of Homes in Indonesia

Jakarta – Citi Indonesia hopes to help millions of Indonesians gain a better understanding about financial planning and management in a new television program launched today.

The "Uang Anda" financial education series, funded by the Citi Foundation and run in cooperation with Yayasan Kelompok Kerja Visi Anak Bangsa (YKK VAB), provides practical advice and tips on a range of personal finance topics. Incorporating real-life scenarios, the five-minute episodes will be a regular segment on Metro TV's "Bisnis Hari Ini" show. The video vignettes will air at 3.00pm every Tuesday from July 3 until February 2008 (32 episodes).

At the launch, Shariq Mukhtar, Citibank Indonesia Country Business Manager, said, "Through the television series, our aim is to help millions of Indonesians become more aware and understand better a range of topics including budgeting, saving, investment and the correct use of credit.

"Using credit wisely is particularly important because research indicates that some people see credit cards as a lending tool and as a result, get caught in a debt trap."

Mr. Mukhtar said the series is Citi Indonesia’s contribution in support of Bank Indonesia’s recent “Ayo ke Bank” financial education campaign.

"Citi has great expertise and experience in managing financial education initiatives in Indonesia, Asia and around the world, and through this campaign we are delighted to share our knowledge to reach out to millions of people," said Mr. Mukhtar.

Agus Pambagio, co-founder of YKK VAB, said television was a great way to showcase personal finance best practices.

"Close to 80% of Indonesians own, or have access to a television. Given this, it's the perfect medium for a mass education program."

Host of the show, Agus Pambagio, said the program offered great potential to make a difference in the community.

“I am delighted to be involved in the program and our goal is to educate and change perceptions on important topics such as budgeting and using credit wisely."

Uang Anda is Citi Peka’s third financial education program. Others include the Citi University Banking Course and Financial Education for the Poor initiatives.
