Citibank Korea Launches 2007 Think Money Financial Education Program

Seoul – The 2007 "Learn and Experience, Finance Class for Youth – Think Money" program was recently launched by Citibank Korea CEO, Yung Ku (YK) Ha and YWCA Korea Chairperson, Eun-Kyung Park.

Introduced by Citibank Korea and YWCA Korea in 2006, the objective of “Think Money” is to help young Koreans develop a better understanding about basic money management concepts.

At the launch, Citibank Korea CEO, YK Ha said, "Providing financial education for our youth is an investment for the future and we will work closely with YMCA Korea to implement Think Money courses in both schools and with community groups nationwide."

Building on the success of the 2006 program that involved 34,000 middle school students, the 2007 initiative will be extended to include elementary school students. Eleven elementary schools from ten areas nationwide will participate in a pilot program. The campaign will include finance classes for 4th-6th grade students followed by field trips to the stock market, the Currency Museum of Korea and local companies and factories.

Another new and unique initiative is the "Finance Class with Mom & Dad" project. Under this, Citibank Korea employees will run finance classes at the respective schools attended by their children.

In addition, 100 Citibank executives and employee volunteers will also be trained to serve as lecturers throughout the year. The launch event included a training session for 50 Citibank executives and employee volunteers who participate in the first semester program.

Weekly after-school finance classes will also be offered at ten YWCA facilities in ten regions across Korea. The “2007 Think Money” program is funded by a USD 430,000 grant from the Citi Foundation.
