Citi Ecuador Volunteers Provide Financial Education to Low-Income Families in Quito
On June 24 and July 1, Citi Ecuador and Habitat for Humanity Ecuador (HFHE), carried out a financial education workshop to benefit 18 families from El Carmen Bajo neighborhood, located in the city of Quito. The main purpose of this initiative was to teach how to manage and administrate a family budget. Volunteers from Citi Ecuador participated as instructors and shared their financial knowledge with the families.
This initiative is part of Citi's and HFH's financial education program, which was initiated in 2006, thanks to Citi Foundation's economic support. Its objective is to train families on the implications and responsibilities they will assume when entering a credit agreement with Habitat, as well as provide knowledge related to savings, investment and family budget management. This year Citi contributed US$9,000 to the program.
Previous to beginning the workshops, Citi volunteers participated in a training session on the program and got certified as instructors.
Since 2006, 297 families have been trained through this financial education program. These families now have the tools to manage their personal finances and make better decisions when applying for credit. Undoubtedly, this work by Citi Ecuador employee volunteers contributes to the improvement of the quality of life of the families.
