Citi Hong Kong & Tung Wah Group Launch "Wisdom of Financial Management – The Six Basic Principles to Accumulate Wealth"

Hong Kong – Sponsored by Citi and published by Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (T.W.G.Hs) – Healthy Budgeting Family Debt Counseling Center, a financial education book – “Wisdom on Financial Management – The 6 Basic Principles to Accumulate Wealth” was launched today.

The new book will provide students with another source to gain knowledge on financial management – snippets of wisdom from role models in society. Free copies of the book will be distributed to all primary and secondary schools, as well as public libraries in Hong Kong.

The essence of the book originated from a pilot “Smart Kid” Financial Education Experiential Program, held in October 2006, from which derived six core values identified as the most important elements to financial management. These values were then compiled into the book that aims to inspire thinking on correct money concepts and financial management habits.

Business leaders, educators, professionals and T.W.G.Hs’ social workers have contributed their stories and life experiences to the book, including Mrs. Ivy Lai, Director, Investor Education & Communications, Securities and Futures Commission, and Professor K. C. Chan, Dean, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Business School. Beyond financial management principles, the students will also glean the values that are important to these role models and how these have contributed to their development and success.

“Citi strongly believes that financial management is a life skill that can improve the quality of life for individuals and families, as well as strengthen communities around the world. We are pleased to sponsor Tung Wah Group of Hospitals in publishing this book, which we hope will inspire the students and help them in making wise choices throughout their student life and even after,” said Sim S. Lim, Citi Country Officer, Hong Kong and Head of Markets & Banking, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

At the launch of the “Wisdom on Financial Management – The Six Basic Principles to Accumulate Wealth,” Citi and T.W.G.Hs also officially kicked off the “Smart Kid” Financial Education Experiential Program 2007/08.

This is a series of day camps for secondary students. During the one-day camp, the students will go through a simulated life where they will experience different choices to be made in their “life” including studying, spending, working and investing. The students will also gain invaluable experiences and insights from the group sharing sessions.

“The pilot day camp sponsored by Citi was a great success, in which 120 secondary school students participated. With the overwhelmingly positive response from students and teachers, we have decided to organize three day camps for the 2007/2008 academic year. We believe that financial education can help train young people to become good citizens who are independent, balanced in development, responsible, and willing to contribute themselves to the society,” said Peter Ong, Chairman of T.W.G.Hs.

The “Smart Kid” Financial Education Experiential Program day camps will be held on July 14, 2007, February 23, 2008 and April 26, 2008. The three camps will be able to accommodate 360 secondary school students.

Registration for the July camp begins on June 20, 2007 at 10:00am. Registration for the February and April camps will be on February 4, 2008 at 10:00am. Registration and participation is free and will be on a first-come, first-served basis.
