Citibank Philippines Advocates "Use Credit Wisely" with Release of New Financial Education Book
Manila – A reader-friendly 52-page book highlighting personal credit best practices has been released by Citibank Philippines.
The "Use Credit Wisely" (UCW) booklet is the latest phase in Citibank Philippines’ ongoing credit management financial education campaign. It follows the successful launch of a UCW web site in 2004, and a local language site in 2005.
"The UCW booklet will make credit information even more accessible," said Citibank Philippines Country Business Manager, Mark Jones.
“We’re very happy to take our credit education campaign to the next level. We started with a web site because that allowed us to offer a comprehensive resource about credit and financial management on a channel that was accessible to clients and non-clients alike.
“To reach out to a wider audience, we then offered a version in the vernacular language and worked with a well-known writer to ensure accuracy and clarity in the translation. However, as Internet access is not as widespread as in other markets, we decided to develop a handy reference guide which can be easily distributed to targeted publics,” noted Mr. Jones.
Like the web site, the book covers close to everything a consumer needs to know about credit products. It includes tips on how to spend responsibly, how to manage finances in hard times and protection from fraud.
To make the discussion interactive, the book also includes worksheets and case studies. Readers are also encouraged to take a short quiz to determine if they need a credit card. There is also a test measuring financial preparedness in case of an emergency situation.
As part of its effort to help its credit card holders and members of the public better manage their credit, Citibank Philippines will soon hold meetings with other companies to share UCW best practices. The UCW is just one of Citibank Philippines’ planned 2007 initiatives to promote financial literacy in the country.
