Citigroup Launches Youth Investment Education Program 2007 in Hong Kong

More than 1,000 Students from 102 Secondary Schools Sign Up for the Challenge

In an overwhelming response to the inaugural Citigroup Youth Investment Education Program, 1,004 students from 102 secondary schools have signed up for the championship.

The Citigroup Youth Investment Education Program 2007 is an enhanced challenge from the previous Citigroup Stock Challenge Program. It consists of a series of activities including an investment education seminar, workshops, online stock trading game and Financial Quotient (FQ) Workshop aimed at providing a diversified financial learning experience for the secondary school students.

“Our commitment to financial education is one of Citigroup’s highest priorities because we believe that knowledge is the greatest asset. It is our experience that teaching people how to spend, save, invest, borrow and manage money wisely helps them improve the quality of their lives. I’m really pleased with the students’ overwhelming response to the Citigroup Youth Investment Education Program as this is a good indication of their growing awareness for the need for financial education,” said T.C. Chan, Citigroup Country Officer, Hong Kong & Head of Greater China, Corporate and Investment Banking.

There will be three stages in the championship. During the first stage, students will acquire the necessary financial knowledge and in the second stage, they compete in an online trading game. Upon completion of the two-month online trading game, students with the highest value in their accounts win the championship. The final stage is the Financial Quotient Workshop and Awards Presentation.

Stage One will be the Citigroup Youth Investment Education Seminar to be held on January 20, 2007 in the Academic Community Hall of Hong Kong Baptist University. Speakers will include:
Dr. Chan Yan Chong, MBA Director – Faculty of Business, City University of Hong Kong;
Mr. Chordio Chan, Head of Risk Treasury, Emerging Markets Sales and Trading, Citigroup;
and Mr. Arthur Shek, Associate Publisher of Hong Kong Economic Times

Topics include “Fundamental concepts of financial management,” “How financial markets operate” and “Financial markets in Hong Kong and China.”

For the Citigroup Youth Investment Education Workshop, students will be divided into four groups to attend a half-day workshop either on January 27 or February 3 where they will acquire stock trading skills with case studies on investment portfolio through the workshop before starting the most exciting part of the challenge – the online trading game.

Students will be provided stock trading accounts to conduct online trading from February 5 to March 31, 2007. During that period, they can trade on HSI and CEI stocks (73 stocks in total), Hang Sang H shares ETF (2828) and Tracker Fund (2800). The winners will be those with the highest value in their accounts at the end of the two-month online trading game.

The FQ Workshop and Award Presentation Ceremony will be held in April 2007. Investment experts will evaluate the students’ performance, share their investment experiences, and help them develop positive financial management concepts and healthy investment habits.
