Citigroup & SII Sponsor All-Russian Stock Market Quiz, Announce Student Finalists

Moscow – Fifteen skillful students from Russian secondary schools have made it through to the final of the All Russian Stock Market Quiz, sponsored by The Securities and Investment Institute (SII) and Citigroup Foundation.

The 15 finalists were able to give the right answers to more than 10 out of the 15 questions on stock market themes. They will now need to work out the task, write the observation of the stock market, taking into account the planned factors, and analyze the concrete economic situations (cases).

421 participants registered for the contest. The works were presented to the Securities and Investment Institute (SII) and Citigroup Foundation by students from six Russian cities (Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Samara, Krasnoyarsk and Omsk), where the official Quiz took place, as well as from schools of Tver, Ust-Ilimsk, Pechora, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk and other regions of Russia.

In February 2007 all finalists of the Quiz are to be invited to the awards ceremony to be held in Moscow where they will receive diplomas confirming their participation in the contest. As well as money, the winners of the contest will receive awards, gifts, and certificates that will enable them to train for free at the SII. The winners will also be given the opportunity to visit a stock and currency exchange, receive on-job-training with Citigroup Russia, and familiarize themselves in detail with the activity of the bank dealing with the securities market.

The “All-Russian Stock Market Quiz” is designed for Russian secondary-school students who are interested in operating standards and history of financial markets and development of the stock market in particular,” says Andrey Demchenko, general director of the SII. The Quiz contributes to the formation of an investment culture among young people, draws the attention of the educational community, and profile bodies of state power to activities aimed at improving financial literacy and competence among younger people.

Nataly Nikolaeva, vice president of Citigroup in Russia, says: “It is our pleasure to report high quality of works sent for the contest and to point out increased interest of the young generation in the securities market and gaining knowledge in this sphere. This confirms that in the next five to six years we can expect that the market can expect more skilled young people with an interest and will to learn and develop into experts of the Russian securities market.”

Information support to the project is provided by the Youth Center for Financial Operations Study, Valyutnyi Speculyant (Currency Speculant) magazine, Internet portals Stockportal.ru, “Planet of Education” and “Education for Children,” as well as ?3Media Information Agency and the Urals Educational Portal.
