NATIONAL (U.S.)
Junior Achievement
- May 12th in St. Louis, Dara Duguay, Director of the Office of Financial Education, Dan Iannicola, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Education at the Treasury and David Chernow, President and CEO of Junior Achievement, attended the ribbon cutting ceremony of the first New Enterprise Center, of which Citigroup is a sponsor. The Center includes the Enterprise Village and Finance Park which gives children in elementary and middle schools the opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge to real-world situations.
Primerica & Do Something
- May 18th in Atlanta, Dara Duguay, Director of the Office of Financial Education, Primerica Co- CEO and COO Rick Williams, and Do Something CEO, Nancy Lublin joined state representatives, community leaders, teachers and students at Osborne High School to announce Citigroup's commitment to Financial Education in Georgia and to promote Do Something’s Financial Education Challenge.
- The Do Something Financial Education Challenge, sponsored by a grant from the Citigroup Foundation, is a two-week financial literacy program geared to students in grades K-12. To date, over 6,000 students have signed up for the game and almost 2,000 educators have downloaded the curriculum.
- Attendees included: John O'Keefe from State Representative Phil Gingrey's office, Ashley Holt from the Georgia Secretary of State's office, Fred Elsberry, President of the Metro Atlanta Better Business Bureau, Greg Swayne, Founder of How Stuff Works, Jerry Tipton, President of The Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta, Bill Hooson, VP for Development of the Metro Atlanta YMCA, David Martin, Executive Director of The Georgia Council on Economic Education, and Parky Lee, Director of Training and Evaluation for Junior Achievement of Georgia, Inc.
National Coalition For Asian Pacific American Community Development
- May 21st in Los Angeles, Dara Duguay was the keynote speaker at the 5th annual convention of the National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development (CAPACD). The theme of the convention was "Talk Story: Celebrating Power & Courage in Community." Dara discussed Citigroup's commitment to financial education and highlighted Citibank’s initiatives with organizations in the Asian American Pacific Islander communities across the country that promote economic empowerment and community development.
FINANCIAL EDUCATION TRAINING
Urban League
- May 3rd and 4th in Glendale,California, Citigroup instructors trained 20 people on the Citigroup Financial Education curriculum. Instructors from various Citigroup Companies (Univerciti, Citibank, Citicorp Investment Services, and CitiFinancial) taught financial lessons from the adult curriculum -- saving and investing, credit, basic investing and basic financial services. Nine Trainees were from three local Urban League affiliates in San Diego, Sacramento, and Los Angeles and eleven were from Citibank’s community relations staff. Recently, the National Urban League received a three-year grant ($900,000) for a financial education program using the Citigroup Curriculum.
New York City Parks Department
- Citigroup sent volunteers to teach financial education using the Citigroup curriculum to four New York City Parks Department recreation centers scattered across the 5 boroughs of New York. The classes were part of the department's pilot after-school program. Five volunteers have committed to teaching Grades 6-8 for one-hour a week over a four-week period in May. The centers are in Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and East Harlem. The program ran throughout the month of May.
Urban League
- May 18th in Long Island City, Citigroup instructors trained over 20 people on the Citigroup Financial Education curriculum. Instructors taught financial lessons from the adult curriculum -- saving and investing, credit, basic investing and basic financial services. Twelve trainees were from three Urban League affiliates in Chicago, Rochester, and New York City and thirteen were from the African Heritage Network. Recently, the National Urban League received a three-year grant ($900,000) for a financial education program using the Citigroup Curriculum.
Pilot Financial Education Program In Queens School District
- May 18th at Court Square, Citigroup instructors trained 73 Assistant Principals from the Region 4 school district in Queens on the financial education curriculum for grades K-8. The next training session will take place in late August/early September with selected teachers from the schools in Region 4. The goal is to have the Citibank Financial Education program incorporated into the Social Studies curriculum in Region 4 schools in Fall 2004.

2004 Asia Pacific NGO Awards Launch and Workshops
- May 4th in Taipei, Citigroup launched the 2004 Asia Pacific NGO Awards with more than 30 NGO reps present. On May 10th and 11th, Citigroup hosted capability development workshops for 60 NGO reps. One of the speakers was the Country Head for Continuity of Business, Olivier Crespin.
Citigroup Sweden Presents Citigroup Foundation Award
- May 4th in Stockholm, Swedish CCO Jan Belfrage presented the Citigroup Foundation Award to three students at the Stockholm School of Economics.
Career Academy Graduation Celebration
- May 5th at Citigroup Center in Canary Wharf, London, 200 people attended the Career Academy Graduation ceremony, including individuals from business, government and education. 40 students graduated from the UK Career Academy Foundation and each was presented with a certificate of achievement. This is the second class of students to graduate from the academy.
- Notable attendees included: Sir Winfried Bischoff, Chairman of the UK Career Academy Foundation and Chairman of Citigroup Europe, Robert Swannell, Co-Chair of Citigroup's European Investment Bank, Philip Robinson, Director, Financial Services Authority (the UK financial services regulator), Lynn Fabes, Director, UK Department for Education and Skills, John Ferrandino, President of the National Academy Foundation, USA, John May, CEO of the UK Career Academy Foundation and local television personality Sanjeev Baskhar.
High School Financial and Economics Competition
- May 12th in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Citibank hosted the 2nd annual Economic Education Alliance Financial Competition for Public and Private High Schools. Six schools participated in the event which took place at Citibank Center. Citibank PR has supported the Alliance since 1998, but in 2002 became the main sponsor of the organization with the Federal Reserve Bank.
- Attendees included: Carlos Davila, Business Manager of the Retail Bank, César Rey, Secretary of Education, José Jaime Rivera, President of the University of the Sacred Heart, and Lloyd Bromberg, Federal Reserve Bank Coordinator.
